Trojans Set to Face North Texas in First Round of Conference Tourney

Troy will tipoff against North Texas on Saturday at 2:30pm in the first round of the conference tournament.

Troy, Ala. - Troy women's basketball will kick off the 2012 Sun Belt Conference tournament with North Texas on Saturday at 2:30pm in Hot Springs, Ark.
The Trojans (2-25, 1-15 Sun Belt) enter the tournament after suffering a close loss on the road against FAU 68-62. Troy will look to build on their best 3-point shooting performance which they posted against the Owls. Seven different Trojans combined to record 11 3-point shots against FAU, the most since facing Central Florida on February 28, 2003.
Jasmine Pitts will look to continue her scoring success as she came off the bench to lead her team in scoring with 17 total point's last time out. Pitts combined 6-11 from the field after hitting 4-8 from behind the 3-point arc.
Troy will also need sophomore Ieva Nagy to build on her shooting success against North Texas. Nagy currently leads the conference in 3-point percentage with an average of .408 behind the arc.
Junior Sophie Kleeman will look to continue to advance her name in the Troy record books. Kleeman currently ranks eighth in career assists with 216. She is only 15 assists away from Amy Lewis (2004-08) who currently sits in 7th place with 231 assists. Kleeman is also only seven 3-pointers away from tying Chandra Bradford (1999-00) for Troy's seventh career 3-point leader. Bradford sits with 89 career 3-pointers; Kleeman has 82.
Senior Tenia Manuel will look to continue to be a dual threat for Troy this season. She leads her team in rebounding averaging 6.6 rebounds per game. Along with being Troy's leading rebounding threat, Manuel also ranks right behind DeAngela Sword as Troy's second leading scorer with 7.8 points per game this season.
Manuel is also advancing her name through the Troy record books as she sits in 9th place in most career rebounds in Troy's history. Manuel has 490 career rebounds and is only 14 rebounds away from tying former Trojan Amy Lewis (2004-08) for 8th most career rebounds.
The Trojans will look to slow down North Texas' leading scorer Jasmine Godbolt. Godbolt leads her team with 12.6 points per game this season. Troy must also find a way to slow down Ash'Lynne Evans,
Brittany Hudson and Tamara Torru; all broke double digit scoring against the Trojans earlier this season.
This will be the first meeting between Troy and North Texas in the conference tournament.
