Jaycee Affeldt threw her second-straight complete game, as the Trojans won their first game against an SEC opponent since 2010.
OXFORD, Miss. – Freshman pitcher Jaycee Affeldt recorded her second-straight complete game, allowing just one run, as Troy defeated the Ole Miss Rebels, 5-1, at the Red and Blue Classic.

Affeldt  kept the Rebels off-balance at the plate as she allowed just one run and five hits, while striking out eight batters.
"We're extremely proud of Jaycee's performance, especially as she was able to complete the contest, head coach Melanie Davis said. "Although she pitched behind on a few occasions she had good command of her pitches and was able to work her way back and keep Ole Miss off-balance."
Troy jumped out earlier against Ole Miss scoring a run in the top of the first on a two-out RBI single down the left field line by Hayden Gann that scored Nikki Hollett all the way from first.
In the top of the second, the Trojans plated four more runs on three hits. Troy loaded the bases with no outs, after Kelly Luquette singled up the middle to start the top of the second. Ole Miss pitcher Kelly Chandler gave up back-to-back walks Ashley Rainey and Sarah Harris to load the bases for catcher Kacie McAllister.
McAllister would work the count full, before finally drawing a walk that brought in Luquette to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
"Kacie was instrumental for us today behind the plate," Davis said. "She stepped in and blocked several balls and did not have a passed ball all day. I was very proud to see her step in for us."
Next, Michelle Hewett drove in Rainey with an RBI single to right field to extend Troy's lead to 3-0.
After Sarah Harris scored on a passed ball, Jaycee Affeldt drove in McAllister with an RBI groundout, to give the Trojans an early 5-0 lead and end the day for Ole Miss starter Kelly Chandler, who lasted just two innings, giving up five runs on four hits.
Troy's bats were slowed down by Ole Miss reliever Erinn Jayjohn, as the junior shutout the Trojans in her season-high five innings of relief.
Affeldt recorded eight strikeouts was one short of a career-high nine punch outs, which came against Kansas two weeks ago at the Southeastern Lions Classic in Hammond, La.
The win against the Rebels, was the first win over an SEC opponent since 2010, when Troy (13-2) knocked off South Carolina, 5-4, at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Florida.
"It's very important for a lot of reasons. It's important in terms of strength of schedule, RPI, postseason. It's also a confidence builder as we face the numerous quality opponents that we will face in Sun Belt play," Davis said.
Senior Michelle Hewett led Troy at the plate by going 2-for-4 with an RBI. The Marianna, Fla. native extended her hitting streak to nine games, which is a season-long by any Trojan. Hewett also recorded her sixth muiltple hit game of the season.
Hayden Gann was 1-for-4 at the plate with a double and RBI, while Luquette, Rainey, and Harris all added hits for the Trojans.
Troy will face the Chattanooga Lady Mocs at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning to start the second day of the Red and Blue Classic.
