TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's golf team, fresh off two straight weekends of tournament play, will head to South Carolina this weekend for the 43rd Annual Furman Intercollegiate, hosted by Furman University.
The Trojans will face-off against 21 teams, including defending tournament champion Clemson, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Elon, Francis Marion, Gardner-Webb, Georgia, Georgia State, Marshall, Michigan, Presbyterian, Purdue, Samford, Temple, Virginia Tech, Western Carolina, Winthrop and Wofford.
The field features three top-50 teams in the country according to the rankings released by Golf Week/Sagarin. Atlantic Coast Conference member Clemson enters the weekend at No. 13 with Georgia ranked 22nd and Purdue ranked 37th.
Round one of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 8 a.m. Friday morning, but Troy will have the luxury of a late tee-off time at 12:30.
"We are teeing off at 12:30 in the afternoon, and I think this will be great for the team because they will be able to rest in the morning,” Troy coach Matt Terry said. “Resting is going to be the best thing for the team because this is their third tournament in a row. We should be able to come out firing some good scores after resting."
