TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After carding first and second round scores of 292 and 289, the Troy men's golf team completed the Seminole Intercollegiate with a tournament low score of 285.
Tournament host No. 28 Florida State captured the team victory with a 23-under par on the weekend and a total score of 829. No. 8 Georgia Tech, No. 48 Kennesaw State, Mercer and North Carolina rounded out the top five.
Troy entered this morning's final round in ninth place and finished the day in tenth place, only two strokes behind Sun Belt Conference opponent Arkansas State.
Jake Tucker completed the weekend as the highest finishing Trojan, tied for 15th (70-71-71-212) after entering today's round tied for 12th. Tucker began today's action on the back nine and moved to a three-over par, but rebounded on his last nine holes with three birdies to finish at even-par on the day.
Tolver Dozier dropped in the standings on the final day of competition, but still managed to capture a finish of tied for 32nd. Dozier began his day by double-bogeying on the tenth hole, but did manage to card three birdies in the round and finished the day at a two-over par 73 (72-71-73-216).
Senior Ricky Casko held onto his standing in the leader board, tied for 42nd. Casko birdied his first hole of the day, but then bogeyed four holes on the back nine. Casko did manage to card a birdie on the first hole to salvage a two-over par 73 (74-72-73-219).
Auburn native Wil Clowdus carded one of the highest scores of the final round, which allowed him to jump 16 spots in the leader board. After shooting a ten-over par in the first round of the Seminole Intercollegiate, Clowdus rebounded with a three-under par 68 (81-76-68-225) and carded only the second eagle by a Trojan all weekend and also birdied four holes to improve his finishing position to tied for 71st.
“I am proud of how Wil Clowdus performed today posting a final round of three-under par,” said Head Coach Matt Terry. “He has really played well the final day of the last two tournaments, with a one under par at USF Invitational and a three under today.”
Kyle Thommesen shot a four-over par 75 (76-75-75-226) to complete his weekend at the Southwood Golf Club. Thommesen started the round off with two birdies, but struggled late with one double-bogey and three bogeys to claim a finish of tied for 75th.
Terry praised the tournament low score and said he was proud of the team's efforts on the weekend.
“We were passed by Mississippi State today because they really put up a good number, but over all we shot a 285 which was a tournament low for us,” said Terry. “We are making strides and that is what matters.”
The Trojans return to action Friday, Mar. 16 through Sunday, Mar. 18 when they travel to the Furman University Golf Club.
