Dozier Holds Top Spot, Trojans in Fifth After First Round

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Tolver Dozier used a season-best 68, second round score, combined with a 71 in the first round to lead the individual standings and pace the Trojans to a fifth place standing after day one of the ASU Fall Beach Classic at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club in Gulf Shores on Monday.

The sophomore leads the field of 70 by three strokes after posting under-par scores in each of the rounds on Monday. The two round total of 139 is also the lowest by any Trojan this season, besting the previous 140 by Dozier back in September at the Golfweek Program Challenge.

Jake Tucker carded a one-over par 73 in the opening round, before dropping two strokes 18 holes later to a 75 to head into Tuesday's final round tied for 12th at four-over. The 148, 36-hole total is the second-best for Tucker on the year, missing his personal best by just two strokes.

Freshman Jacob Harper carded a seven-over, 79 in the opening round, but rebounded on the final 18 holes to a 74 to finish day one tied for 36th at nine-over.

Kyle Thommesen enters Tuesday's final round tied for 59th at 17-over, while Wil Clowdus will look to improve on a standing of tied for 63rd in Tuesday's final 18 holes.

Murray State and Stephen F. Austin lead the event, each with 588's, by just one stroke over third place Vanderbilt.
The 601, 36-hole total by Troy ties for the second-best on the season, and also marks the second consecutive tournament where the Trojans finished the first two rounds with a 601 (last at Pinetree Intercollegiate).

The final round of the ASU Fall beach Classic will begin Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club.
