Troy Picks up First Sun Belt Win, Dominates UALR

TROY, Ala. – Troy (6-8-1, 1-4-0) celebrated senior day by getting back to its winning ways with a 4-0 win over UALR (1-13-0, 0-6-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Troy Soccer Complex. Three different Trojans scored, including two by Chelsey Williams who now leads the team with seven goals, as Troy picks up its first win in Sun Belt play.

“Getting the result today was the most important thing,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “It's a great confidence booster for us moving forward, but this week we'll have to go back and learn a little bit and improve ourselves.”

Troy struck first, with Louise Cheng burying her first career goal. Cecilia Thorngren came down the right side and found Cheng streaking through the middle with a great low ball. Cheng handled the rest, with a nice touch to the far post, giving Troy a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.

Chelsey Williams doubled Troy's lead in the 27th minute. Maddie Tieken found Williams tucked in behind the defense, who slotted in a nice shot to the right side netting.

Maddie Tieken capped off an impressive string of passes for Troy in the 31st minute with her second goal of the season. Emily Sleeman found Thorngren at the top of the 18-yard box, who sent a great pass across the box to Tieken who buried the goal.

Williams would strike again, converting on a free kick in the 79th minute. Cheng sent a low ball in to the top of the 18-yard box, where Williams picked it up and took a bending shot past the goalkeeper.

Maddie Winter picked up her sixth win of the season, making six saves for her second shutout of the season.

The Trojans are back in action on Friday, October 12, when they travel to Middle Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
