Soccer Travels to Mobile for Sun Belt Conference Tournament: Face FIU in Quarterfinals

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy soccer team (9-9-2) is set to take on FIU (11-5-2) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on the campus of South Alabama in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

Troy earned the sixth seed in the tournament after finishing the season unbeaten in its last four matches, including three straight wins. The Trojans have outscored their opponents 7-2 over the last four games to earn their fourth consecutive trip to the conference tournament.

Chelsey Williams leads the team with 20 points on eight goals and four assists this season. Cecilia Thorngren is currently in second, with 17 points on four goals and nine assists. Katie Comeno-Lewis has come up huge in net during the current unbeaten streak, making 29 saves in the four matches.

FIU is riding a winning streak of its own, having gone unbeaten over the past seven matches, and finished the regular season tied for the lead in the conference with 25 points (8-1-1) earning the third seed. The Panthers are led by first team all-conference selection Chelsea Leiva. Leiva finished the regular season with 25 points on 10 goals and five assists.

Troy is 1-7-0 all-time against FIU, including a 2-1 overtime loss earlier in the season. Jasmine Fahrnbauer scored the lone goal for the Trojans, tying the match in the 70th minute to force the extra frame.

The winner will take on the winner of Middle Tennessee and South Alabama, which will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
