Southern Arkansas Rodeo Results
MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Kassandra Smith continued her success in the goat tying event, while Nelson Wyatt appeared as the only member of the men's team in the short-go, to net a finish of sixth for the women, and a no score for the men Saturday at the Southern Arkansas University Rodeo.
Wyatt made it to the final round in calf roping, but did not place after scoring times of 12.2 and 16.8 seconds in the first two rounds for an average of 29. Southern Arkansas' Curt Mosley and East Mississippi's Riley Grisham tied for first with 140 points, while Mosley picked up the win in the average after a posting a total time of 21.3 seconds.
With three Trojans already in the top-15 standings in breakaway roping, Crystal Moffat added her name to that list after totaling 40 points to record her first point total of the season.
Kassandra Smith, who entered the weekend in second in the goat tying event, left Arkansas with a second place finish. She posted a round one time of 8.8 seconds and dropped by four tenths in the second to 9.2 for an average of 18 seconds, good enough for a third place finish in the average. Her 110 points tied for second with Missouri Valley's Kasey Struxness, while Chelsey Green picked up the victory thanks to a 16.4 second average.
Morgan Sellers entered the weekend in 14th in the Ozark Region's barrel racing standings with 60 points, and thanks to a 80 point total Saturday, now has 140 points which should boost her standing in the event. She opened the round with a 15.95 second time, but rebounded in the final go for a 15.69 time for an average of 31.64. Her 80 points were good enough for a fourth place finish in points, while her average time placed her third just ahead of Southern Arkansas' Leslie Jennings with a 31.66.
Tennessee-Martin claimed both the men's and women's championships, dominating in the male division with a 660-point win over Murray State with 365 points.
Action in Arkansas ends a streak of four-straight road events for the Trojan Spurs, as they will now focus their attention to the annual Trojan Stampede. The Stampede will take place Nov. 15-17 at the Pike County Cattlemen's Association Complex. Check back with www.TroyTrojans.com for more information regarding the home event in the coming days.
