Trojans Look to Lock Up Playoff Seeding at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy soccer team (8-9-2, 3-5-1) travels to Mobile, Ala. on Friday to take on South Alabama (8-8-3, 3-4-2) at 7:00 p.m. in the final game of the regular season. All eight teams have been determined for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament, but seeding is still on the line, as the Trojans can finish anywhere from sixth to the eighth seed.

A win on Friday would give the Trojans the sixth seed in the conference tournament, while a loss or a draw would leave the seeding up to Florida Atlantic, who currently trails the Trojans by just one point.

Troy picked up a Louisiana sweep last weekend, taking down Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday, 1-0 in overtime, and ULM on Sunday, 3-0. Maddie Tieken scored the overtime game-winner against the Ragin' Cajuns with just 2:40 seconds remaining in the second overtime. She received a pass from Samantha Morgan and broke away past the defense before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. Katie Comeno-Lewis made 15 total saves on the weekend, earning the first two shutouts of her career. Chelsey Williams scored once and added an assist against ULM.

Entering the final weekend of play, Williams leads the team with 20 points on eight goals and four assists, while Cecilia Thorngren is in second with 17 points on four goals and nine assists.

South Alabama picked up a win and a tie last weekend, defeating ULM, 4-0, and tying ULL, 1-1. The Jaguars currently sit in sixth in the conference standings, but could finish anywhere from fifth to eighth.

Clarissa Hernandez leads the squad with 14 points on five goals and four assists this season, while Tatum Perry had nine points on four goals and one assist.

The Trojans are 3-4-1 all-time against the Jaguars, including a 2-1 loss last season.
