BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The second round of the 2012 WKU Kenny Perry Invitational proved to be a day of improvement for the Troy men's golf team as they bested their score by 21 strokes to head into the final round tied for ninth.
Jake Tucker (81-77-158) led the charge for the Trojans as he carded a five-over par, 77 to improve his individual standing to 11th after entering the day tied for 15th. Compared to Sunday's opening round, Tucker improved drastically on the first four holes by starting at even-par after beginning Sunday with four straight bogeys on holes 10-14. On the remaining 14 holes, the sophomore carded five more bogeys, two birdies and one double bogey to bring his two day total to 14-over par.
Tolver Dozier (83-79-162) followed in the footsteps of Tucker and improved on the front nine. Dozier made the turn at just even-par, but four consecutive bogeys, along with an additional bogey and a double bogey made way for a seven-over par day to head into Tuesday's round tied for 23rd at 18-over par.
Kyle Thommesen (88-80-168) improved by eight strokes on day two with the help of much improved play on the front nine. At the turn in Sunday's round, Thommesen sat at nine-over. In Monday's round, he bettered that number by seven strokes to head into the final nine holes at just two-over. The sophomore went on to bogey six of his final eight holes to finish the day at eight-over par and enter Tuesday's final round tied for 44th.
Wil Clowdus (86-81-167) had the same results as his teammates, improving on the front nine but dropping on the back. Clowdus used three birdies, along with a bogey and double bogey to make the turn at even-par, but dropped to nine-over on the back nine to finish the day tied for 41st at 23-over.
Jacob Harper (89-84-173) bettered his day one result by five strokes, but still finished the second round at 12-over, therefore dropping his score due to it being the lowest.
Jacksonville State's Franco Grillo again carded the lowest score of the day to lead the field of 60 and maintain a three stroke lead over Charlie Bull of Akron.
The Gamecocks dropped by four strokes on day two, but still cling to a nine stroke lead over Louisville heading into Tuesday's round.
Troy will be grouped with players from Charleston Southern and ULM to begin the final round Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. Fans can follow all of the action live at www.GolfStat.com.
