Trojan women's basketball will tip off against MTSU in Sartain Hall on Thursday.
Game Notes
Troy, Ala. – Troy women's basketball will be hosting Middle Tennessee State on Thursday for their first contest in 2012. The Trojans (1-12, 0-2) will not only be looking to secure their first conference win but their first victory over the Blue Raiders (10-5, 2-0) as well.
The meeting Thursday will be Troy's first conference matchup this season against an Eastern division opponent. Middle Tennessee currently sits at the top of the Easter division standings while Troy rounds out the bottom spot. However, a victory over the Blue Raiders could send the Trojans up as far as third place in the east.
The Trojans enter the contest against Middle Tennessee after closing out 2011 on a tough road campaign that included Denver and North Texas. Troy's home matchup will be the first contest on their own court since their loss to Kennessaw State on December 21.
The Trojans will need continued success behind the three point arch from sophomore Ieva Nagy. Nagy is currently ranked second in the Sun Belt in three point percentage with .425 percent behind the line. However, her talents will be up against Middle Tennessee's Kortni Jones. Jones leads the Sun Belt having made 51 three point field goals.
Troy must also find a way to stop Blue Raider's sophomore forward Ebony Rowe who leads the team in scoring and rebounding and recieved Sun Belt player of the week honors last week.
Trojan guard DeAngela Sword will look to counter Rowe's success on the court. Sword leads the Trojans in scoring accounting for 173 points this season and averaging 13.3 points a game scoring double digits in 11 of the past 13 contests. Sword is also the second leading rebounder on Troy's squad averaging 5.1 rebounds a game, just behind Tenia Manuel who averages 6.7 and is fifth in the Sun Belt in offensive rebounds.
The Trojans will tip off against the Blue Raiders Thursday in Sartain Hall at 5:15pm. The game can be viewed on TroyTrojans.com All-Access or heard on the radio on 94.7FM. Fans can also get updates during the contest by following TroyTrojans.com on Twitter: @TroyAthletics.
