Trojans Grab First Win with Home Shutout

TROY, Ala. - The Troy women's tennis team clinched its first win of the season at home on Sunday, defeating Florida A&M 7-0, at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

The win comes after the Trojans faced tough competition to open their schedule with losses to No.1 Florida, No.7 Georgia, No.46 Kansas State and Auburn.

The Trojans (1-4) started the day off quickly, sweeping all three doubles matches to grab a 1-0 lead over the Rattlers.

The number two team of Olfa Dhaoui and Rosaura Ramirez Vega were the first off the court, defeating Alexis Brown and Elysia Ortiz, 8-1.

Karoline Grymel and Lyubov Dorofeeva clinched the doubles point for Troy, 8-1, defeating FAMU's Kathline Durden and Bethany Holt at the number one spot. The win came just a day after the pair knocked off the Southern regions' sixth-ranked doubles team against Auburn on Saturday.

Samya El Hsissen and Candela Munoz Giron completed the doubles sweep with a third 8-1 win at number three doubles.

In singles play, the Trojans quickly grabbed the three points they needed to clinch the match.

At number three singles, Troy's Dhaoui defeated Britney Dean in straight-set fashion, 6-0, 6-1. Meanwhile Grymel picked up her second straight singles win as she took out FAMU's Durden 6-1, 6-1, at number one singles.

El Hsissen competed in the number five spot for the Trojans and defeated Ortiz 6-1,6-1, to clinch the match for the Trojans.

At number two, Dorofeeva defeated Brown 6-1, 6-3, for her second straight singles victory in as many days.

Troy's Munoz Giron defeated Holt 6-1, 6-1 in the number four spot, while Ramirez Vega took out FAMU's Williams in a 6-3, 6-0 victory to close out the match.

The Trojans return to action this weekend as they travel to the Clemson Winter Indoor Classic.
