The Trojans got their season underway on Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex as they dropped a match to Kansas State, the 46th ranked team in the nation.
The Wildcats swept the Trojans in doubles action, 3-0. Troy's Karoline Grymel and Candela Munoz Giron faced a tough task in K-State's Petra Niedermayerova and Marketa Trousilova as they fell to the 28th-ranked doubles team in the nation, 8-0.
Lyubov Dorofeeva and Samya El Hsissen teamed up in the second doubles spot for the Trojans while Olfa Dhaoui and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega filled the third spot, but both fell to the Wildcats tandems entering singles play.
The highlight for the Trojans came in the fourth singles spot as Dorofeeva dropped Trousilova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. However, by the time that match finished, the Wildcats had already closed out the first, second and third singles spots to clinch the victory.
Grymel fell to Niedermayerova at the number one single spot, falling to the 17th-ranked player in the nation, 6-2, 6-1. Dhaoui also fell to a ranked opponent as she lost to No.94 Karla Bonacic at number two singles, 7-5, 6-4.
Munoz Giron held down the third singles spot for Troy while Ramirez-Vega and El Hsissen played at the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
The win for Kansas State came after they fell to Georgia in their season-opener on Friday.
#7 GEORGIA 7, TROY 0 | Box Score
The Trojans took on a second straight ranked opponent on Sunday as they fell to No.7 Georgia, 7-0, at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts.
Again the Trojans were swept in doubles competition. Troy utilized the same lineup as they did against Kansas State, but were unable to break through against more ranked doubles teams.
Grymel and Munoz Giron fell to the second-ranked tandem in the nation in Georgia's Nadja Gilchrist and Chelsey Gullickson, 8-0 to open the doubles point. Dorofeeva and El Hsissen also fell to ranked duo in Kate Fuller and Lauren Herring who are ranked 60th in the nation.
Just as in doubles play, Troy utilized the same singles lineup as they did against K-State, and got a great match from Dhaoui in the second spot in the lineup. The senior faced Maho Kowase, the 22nd-ranked player in the nation, and after falling 6-3 in the first set, fought back to take the second set off the ranked opponent, 6-7 (6-8).
In lieu of a third set, the two opted to play a 10-point super tiebreaker to decide the match. Dhaoui gave the nation's 22nd best player all she could handle, but fell in the tiebreaker, 10-8.
The rest of the Trojans fell in straight sets to Bulldogs who featured four players in the nation's top 60 in their six-player lineup.
