Trojans Capture Title with Fifth Straight Win

MACON, Ga. – The Troy University volleyball team kept its winning streak alive as the Trojans dropped Tennessee State, 3-1, to capture the Mercer Bear Brawl title.
The Trojans have won five-straight matches after starting the season 0-2. The five-game streak is Troy's first since 2002.
The Trojans return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State in a mid-week match-up.

TROY 3, TENNESSEE STATE 1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-18, 25-18)
Tournament MVP Devin Von Pingel led the Trojans with a .400 attack percentage. Fellow All-Tournament team member Natasha Kolunija paced Troy with 10 kills. Kayla Pickart posted nine kills.
Troy's third All-Tournament team member, Courtney Cohen posted 18 digs while Alexandra Alexander recorded 35 assists.
The Trojans turned an 11-12 deficit into a 16-12 lead with five straight points in the first set on their way to taking the first frame 25-21. Troy out-hit the Tigers in the set, .204 to .037.
The Tigers would take the second set, 25-19, marking the first time that the Trojans have lost a set in their five-game winning streak.
However, with the title on the line, Troy responded with two 25-18 wins in sets three and four. Troy held TSU to .094 and .022 attack percentages in the two frames respectively. An early 7-1 lead is would catapulted the Trojans to the third set win while a 15-5 start sparked the clinching-set win.
