Troy Soccer Claims First Sun Belt Victory Over ULM

The Trojans defeated the Warhawks 4-0 in their conference opener.
TROY, Ala. – In their Sun Belt conference opener the Trojan soccer team held defeated Louisiana Monroe 4-0 at home.
Troy (6-3-1) captured their first conference win on the season off the legs of forwards junior Ruth Sutcliffe and freshman Chelsey Williams.
Sutcliffe jumpstarted the aggressive Trojan attack scoring off of a rebounded ball in the 28'. The virtual game-winning goal gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead at the half.
The Trojan offense entered the second half hot as they outshot the Warhawks 14-5 in the second half alone.
Williams started off the second half Trojan onslaught with a goal on an assist by Sutcliffe in the 46'. With a 2-0 lead on ULM, both Sutcliff and Williams were not finished with their performance. Sutcliffe went on to score again in the 54' quickly followed by another Williams goal in the 58'.
“We did some good things today in the attack when we settled down,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “It was great to see the girls enjoying themselves playing the game! We have to get our legs back for a tough game on Sunday”
Troy went onto defeat ULM 4-0. Troy remains undefeated so far this season on their home turf with a 4-0 home record. The Trojans now look to continue that record with Louisiana-Lafayette stepping up to the challenge on Sunday.
The Trojans kick off against the Ragin' Cajuns at 1 pm.
