The Trojans Cross Country Team will head to Hampton, Ga. to compete in the Georgia State Invite on Saturday.
There will be 10 women's teams and eight men's teams competing at the Nash Farm Battlefield Park, a historic Civil War battlefield site, for the championship.
The course will include a two kilometer grass loop with challenging hills, good footing with a few rough spots, and crossing over gravel paths numerous times.
“We've been training really hard this week,” said Coach Casey McDermott. “I'm proud of their progress, and I expect them to perform well.”
The Trojans are glad the races will now be in the morning, because last year the races were in the heat of the day.
The day will begin with the men's 8K race at 10:00 a.m.
“We got beat by Georgia State last weekend,” said Senior Alec Hamm. “We are looking forward to going to their home course and competing against them again, and try to come out with a victory this time.”
The women will follow the men racing on the 6K course at 11:00 a.m.
“All of us are looking forward to the race,” said Junior Haley Davies. “We hope it goes better than last year since it's at a better time.”
Awards will be given out at noon, to include trophies for the team champions and individual awards to the top five finishers.
