2011 Troy Invitational

Seven schools will be competing in the 2011 Cross Country Troy Invitational Saturday to begin this season.
“Our program is excited to host the Troy Invitational, which is going into its fourth year,” said Coach Casey McDermott.
The Trojans will be hosting Alabama State University, Albany State University, Auburn University, Florida A&M University, Lagrange College, and the University of South Alabama.
Coach Jill Lancaster has been preparing the course all week to make sure everything is ready for Saturday.
“The men's course will be the same as last year,” said Coach Lancaster, “and the women's course will be slightly different towards the finish. The course is in good shape and surprisingly challenging.”
Last year the Troy women cross country team was able to win the team title by five points over Auburn, while the men claimed an individual with Enock Kirui, who set a new meet record for the Trojans with a time of 15:57.75 on the 5K course.
“This year we want to set new records,” said Coach McDermott. “We have a great opportunity with such a great team.”
With the loss of graduating senior Sylvia Chirchir, the women's team will be looking for returners to continue to improve. Morgan Paulson, Allison Paulson, and Agnes Kapsoiyo will be returning this year and all finished in the top 10 at last year's Troy Invitational.
The men finished well also, coming in second to Auburn. Along with Kirui, David Hudman, Alec Hamm, Kemper Morton, and Adam Vise will be returning for the men's team.
“Enock is one of our top returners,” said Coach McDermott, “but he is joined by a few other good returners, as well as some impressive freshmen led by Sam Ammons.”
The men will begin this Saturday at 10:00 a.m., and the women will begin at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free, and the coaches encourage you to come support your Trojans.
