The Trojans take on Alabama State in season opener
The Troy women's soccer team will kick off the programs' 15th season in Montgomery, Ala., on Friday when they take on Alabama State.
The season-opening match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
The Trojans enter the 2011 season with the excitement of a winning 2010 season that saw the programs' third Sun Belt Conference tournament berth and an impressive incoming recruitment class. However, the Trojans will look to maintain their focus on the task at hand.
“As always, we are looking to take things one moment at a time,” head coach Chris Bentley said. “We have a long way to go, so we are keeping focused on the present.”
The Trojans will begin the season against non-conference in-state rival, Alabama State. The Hornets have never defeated Troy, with the Trojans holding an 5-0 record in the all-time series.
“Non-conference games are a great way to prepare us for a very difficult conference schedule,” Bentley said. “We are really excited to see a lot of new faces in positions and a lot of faces in different positions. We have a whole new look and need to be tested and Friday will be our first big test. Alabama State is a much-improved side from years past. Jodi has done a good job building the program, so we expect a challenging game.”
