LAFAYETTE, La. (TroyTrojans.com) – After an impressive shutout victory in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, the fifth-seeded Troy University softball team faces top-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette at Lamson Park in the second round Thursday night.

(No.25/25) Louisiana-Lafayette (42-9) walked away with a 10-3 victory over eighth-seeded Middle Tennessee on Wednesday night, moments after the 4-0 victory over FIU by TROY (31-25).

The two teams have met at Lamson Park in a three-game series already once this season, with the Ragin' Cajuns coming away with a series sweep. However, in that series, the Trojans held a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth before the home team was able to come away with a victory.

Tonight's game will feature two of the best pitchers in the conference in Ashley Brignac of the Ragin' Cajuns and Ashlyn Williams of TROY. Brignac, the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year, did not throw in the opening round game; however, Williams, the Preseason Pitcher of the Year, recorded the shutout over FIU.

The game will also feature Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Christi Orgeron of Louisiana-Lafayette, the Ragin' Cajuns Gabrielle Bridges and TROY's Nikki Hollett; all three are listed among the top seven home run hitters in the country.

The contest is set for 5:30 pm at Lamson Park, and can be seen on SBC Extra.
