TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Troy made its final mid-week road trip of the 2011 season and accomplished a feat they had yet to record this season with a 12-2 run rule win over FAMU on Tuesday night.
The win was the first for the Trojans in a road mid-week game this season. Adam Bryant's eighth inning home run pushed Troy's lead to 12-2 and after a scoreless frame by Cass Abercombie, the game was final due to a mercy rule in place.
Bryant went 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored. His three runs tied him with Clint Robinson for first place in Troy history with 168.
Troy started the scoring in the top of the first with Tallahassee-native Tyson Workman coming around to score after a throwing error on FAMU starter Shay Barwick.
The Rattlers took advantage of a throwing error by Troy starting pitcher William Teal to score two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tobi Adeyemi and Antonio Kilpatrick both scored on a single by Cory Franklin after advancing on the Teal error.
The Trojans plated three runs in the second on a two-RBI double by Daniel Peterson, then a run scoring single from Hannah.
Troy tacked on another run in the third inning after Josh McDorman and Logan Pierce recorded back-to-back doubles with two outs for a 5-2 advantage.
Blake Martz drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The deep fly to centerfield scored Bryant. Martz was responsible for Troy's seventh run as he singled in Bryant from second to widen the lead to 7-1.
Troy tallied four more runs in the eighth inning. Jacob Dixon, who made his first career start behind the plate, came around to score after his second base hit on a throwing error by Andre Dawson. Tyson Workman scored on a RBI double by Hannah for a 10-2 lead.
The next batter was Bryant who crushed his two-run shot to left-centerfield for the final margin.
Martz, Hannah, Peterson and Bryant each drove in a pair of runs.
Teal was the winner of the staff game. He improved to 3-0 this season. Barwick took the loss for the Rattlers to drop to 4-5 for 2011. Seven Troy pitchers combined to limit the Rattlers to just one earned run.
Troy is in action next on Friday in Monroe, La. against ULM. The three-game set begins on Friday night at 6 pm.
