Sophomore battled back from match point in second set to win in three

JONESBORO, Ark. (TroyTrojans.com) – The Troy University women's tennis team could sense the match going the way of Arkansas State on Friday afternoon, but one point shifted the entire match to the Trojans as they escaped with a 4-3 victory over Arkansas State at Allen Park.

Sophomore Rosaura Ramirez-Vega faced a match point in the second set at number five singles to Arkansas State's Ioana Teu, in a match that would decide the outcome for both teams. However, she battled back to win the second set in a tiebreaker and took the third to win the match 2-6, 7-6, 6-1; giving the Trojans a chance at the overall victory.

TROY also got singles victories from two of the hottest players in the conference at this point as Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt each picked up victories at number one and three singles. Grymel defeated Arkansas State's Emily Crowe 6-2, 6-2; while Guijt claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Janie Nowland.

The Trojans other singles victory came from Olfa Dhaoui at number two over Jenny Herring; 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. The victory by Dhaoui clinched the match for the Trojans after Ramirez-Vega battled back to keep them in the match.

Although the Trojans won the match, Arkansas State started the day with a victory in doubles to go up 1-0 in the match and force TROY to fight from behind. The Red Wolves team of Nowland and Biljana Miloshevska defeated the Trojans' team of Lyubov Dorafeeva and Ramirez-Vega at number two, 9-7; while the team of Herring and Menna Kamal defeated the team of Olfa Dhaoui and Gabriella Veiga at number three doubles, 8-2, to capture the point.

Although the point had been decided, the doubles team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt continued to stay hot as a team; claiming an 8-7 victory over Arkansas State's Emily Crowe and Ioana Teu.

TROY returns to action Saturday afternoon at 12 noon against UALR on the road in Little Rock.
