Trojans Finish Seventh at USF Invitational

USF INVITATIONAL FINAL RESULTS
The Troy University men's golf team finished with a final round of two-over par 288 to finish seventh at the USF Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
The Trojans edged past Villanova,, which went into the final round in third place, for seventh. Middle Tennessee coasted to the team title in the tournament with a final round score of on-under par 287. The Blue Raiders finished the event at 26-under par and held a 19 stroke advantage over Florida State in second place.
Four of the top seven teams in the tournament came from the Sun Belt Conference. North Texas slipped from second to a tie for fourth with Arkansas State with an eight-over par 296 in the final round.
Troy senior Zach Portemont earned a top 10 finish in the event with a final round score of one-under par 71. He three-round total of six-under par 210 was good for seventh place. Hunter Green of Middle Tennessee took the individual title, closing with a 71 for a three-day score of 11-under par 205.
Troy's Reid Merritt finished tied for 21st at even par after shooting a two-over par 74 on Sunday. Chase Whitehead finished tied for 41st at five-over par 221 while freshman Nathan Kinch finished with a six-over par 78 and tied for 83rd at 14-over for the weekend.
Junior Ricky Casko finished with a two-over par round of 74 and toed for 90th at 16-over par for the tournament.
The Trojans will face Nicholls State on Wednesday morning in a match-play round in Dothan before heading to Tallahassee next weekend for the Seminole Intercollegiate.
