Trojans win a singles match, but ULM proves too much – winning 12th straight

MONROE, La. – The Troy University women's tennis team fell to one of the hottest teams in the country on Sunday afternoon, falling to 46th-ranked ULM 6-1 in Sun Belt Conference action. The win was the 12th consecutive for the Warhawks this season.

The Trojans' lone victory of the day came at number three singles where Leonie Guijt claimed a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory over ULM's Ana Burjaili. That was one of four singles matches that were contested in three sets on the day, in a match that lasted 4:15.

ULM captured the only match that went straight sets as Letha Gaigher defeated Olivia Battye of Troy 6-2, 6-0; while Rosaura Ramirez-Vega retired against ULM's Vivian Polak after splitting the first two sets 6-4, 3-6.

In other singles action, the Warhawks' Claire Clark stormed back against Troy's Karoline Grymel after losing the first set to capture a victory at number one singles 5-7, 6-1, 6-0; while her teammate Monica Winkel defeated the Trojans' Olfa Dhaoui 6-4, 2-6, 1-6. The final match of the day was claimed by ULM's
Medy Blankvoort over the Trojans' Lyubov Dorafeeva 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

ULM (14-1) captured the first point of the day – the doubles point – as they were able to sweep all three matches from the Trojans to take a 1-0 overall match lead. ULM won the first two matches of the day in doubles to clinch the point as the number two team of Claire Clark and Monica Winkel defeated Troy's Olfa Dhaoui and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega, 8-1; while the number three team of Vivian Polak and Ana Burjaili defeated Troy's Lyubov Dorafeeva and Olivia Battye, 8-1.

The Warhawks also won at number one when the team of Letha Gaigher and Medy Blankvoort defeated the Trojans' team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt, 8-5, in the final match of doubles action.

The Trojans return to action Monday on the road against in-state foe Jacksonville State University in non-conference action.
