Trojan Women Fall to Stetson at Home

Troy fell in their first home match, return to action Sunday afternoon

Troy, Ala. – The Troy University women's tennis team battled through a cold Friday evening before falling to visiting Stetson University 6-1 in non-conference action. It was the first home match for the team this season, and the first match in two weeks.
The Hatters got up early, winning two out of three doubles matches. In number one doubles, Stetson's Carolina de los Santos and Unnati Purushotham defeated Troy's team of Karoline Grymel (Hamburg, Germany) and Leonie Guijt (Rijnsburg, Netherlands) 8-1. In number two doubles, MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell and Sierra Sullivan defeated Troy's Olfa Dhaoui (Nabeul, Tunisia) and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega (Seville, Spain) 8-5.
In the final match (number three doubles), Troy's team of Lyubov Dorofeeva (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Gabriella Veiga (Londrina, Brazil) defeated the Hatters Shannon Gunning and Lindsey Cable 8-3; although Stetson earned the point with two doubles victories.
In singles play, Troy's only victory came from number three Leonie Guijt when she defeated Shannon Gunning, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. In match one, Stetson's Carolina de los Santos defeated Troy's Karoline Grymel, 6-3, 6-3. Troy's Lyubov Dorofeeva was the closets to getting Troy's second win but was defeated by MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell 7-5, 6-7 (7-3), 6-4.
Troy (2-3) return to action Sunday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex against Charleston Southern at 12 noon.
