Troy Sends Eight to Final Round of Trojan Stampede

TROY, Ala. – The long rounds of the Trojan Stampede came to an end tonight at the Pike County Cattleman's Association Complex, with the final round remaining tomorrow night at 7.
Athletes competed Thursday and Friday during the performances and the “slack” portion of the show. Scores from both days are taken and the top ten scores for each event advance to the short-go on Saturday night.
Troy will advance eight athletes to the final round tomorrow night. Four members of the men's team and four members of the women's team will compete for their shot at the championship in their respective categories. Cody Skelton posted a time of 10.5 seconds, advancing him to the final round. Justin Walker, the 2010 Florida State High School Bull Riding Champion, posted a no score Thursday night, but will still advance to the final round tomorrow.
Troy's success in the Team Roping event continued tonight with Lane Taylor and Nelson Wyatt putting on an impressive performance. The Trojan duo posted a time of 9.1 seconds, putting them in second place and advancing to the championship round.
The women's team will compete in three different events in the short go. Sophomore Kassandra Smith posted a time of 3.8 seconds in Breakaway Roping and also claimed a spot in the final round with a time of 9.9 seconds in Goat Tying. Sophomore Lanie Culligan will join her teammate in Goat Tying after she posted a time of 10 seconds.
Troy will also have two women compete in Barrel Racing. Freshman Josey Owens advanced after she posted a time of 16.91 seconds and senior teammate Brittany Drawdy posted a time of 16.77 seconds. Drawdy is in third place in the Ozark Region standings with 230 points.
