Troy soccer prepares to improve in Sun Belt rankings against North Texas
TROY, Ala. – After a disappointing 0-2 conference showing in Florida last week, the Troy soccer team is preparing to bounce back this weekend when they travel out west to take on conference opponents North Texas and Denver.
"The team has really responded well after a tough weekend,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “Training has been good, and application has improved. The girls are still learning from their mistakes, so our best soccer is ahead of us.”
Troy (7-5-1; 2-2) is still in a strong position in the conference despite their falling short of victory against Florida International and Florida Atlantic. The Trojans are currently tied for fifth place with Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky out of the 12 women's soccer teams in the Sun Belt. However, this weekend will be vital as they look to improve in the rankings as both opponents the Trojans are set to face are in the top three in the conference standings.
Their first challenger this weekend will be against North Texas (9-3-1; 4-0). The Mean Green have often been a tough opponent for the Trojans as Troy has yet to defeat North Texas with the all time record currently at 0-7.
“North Texas is a perennial power in our conference,” said Bentley. “They are athletic, physical, and work extremely hard. We will need to fix things from this past weekend and work for an entire 90 minutes if we expect to get a result."
Troy will look to get their first victory against North Texas on their own pitch in Denton, Texas. Kickoff is set for 7 pm on Friday. Follow TroyTrojans.com on twitter (@TroyAthletics) for up to the minute updates on the Troy women's soccer team.
