The Trojans fell to the Blue Raiders 0-3 on Sunday, however they secure their seed in conference tournament.
Troy, Ala. – The Trojan (9-9-1, 4-6) soccer team fell at home to conference rival Middle Tennessee State (10-7-1, 7-2-1) 0-3 on Sunday in only their second home loss of the season.
The Trojans fell behind the Blue Raiders early in the 3' giving up a goal to Luisa Moscoso on a corner kick. Middle Tennessee State would strike again in almost the same fashion in the 39' as Regina Thomas netted another Blue Raider goal off of a corner kick. The goal would send the Trojans into the half down 0-2 to the Blue Raiders.
Troy would fail again in the second half to stop the aggressive MTSU offense as Shan Jones recorded another goal on an assist from Charity Blair in the 49'.
“Our inconsistency is something that we need to address,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “It's a process and we will get better for the remainder of the season. Congrats to MTSU, they put us away and we couldn't fight back.”
Despite the disappointing loss the Trojans have secured their spot in the post season tournament for the third straight season as Arkansas-Little Rock fell to Denver earlier on Sunday to break the tie for the final seed in the Sun Belt tournament.
The Trojans will look to bounce back before the tournament when they host South Alabama in their final home match on Friday. The match will be the Trojans senior day as they honor their two seniors, Ashley Branham and Mary Morris in their final home match as Trojans.
Kickoff between the Trojans and the Jaguars is set for 3 pm on Friday in the Troy Soccer Complex.
