The Trojan soccer team came home with a 1-0 victory over WKU on Thursday night.
Bowling Green, Ky. – Troy soccer took home a much needed conference win against Western Kentucky Thursday night win the Trojans defeated the Hilltoppers 1-0. The tough earned victory not only snapped a WKU three match win streak but also a Trojan four game road streak.
The game-winning goal came from the efforts of sophomore Samantha Morgan in the 11' on a shot from about 18 yards out. The goal is Morgan's first of her career.
The Trojan defense would hold off the Hilltoppers for the next 79 minutes, surviving 17 WKU shots. Trojan Goalkeeper Ashley Branham would go on to record six saves in the match.
“We competed today for 90 minutes,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “This is a tough place to play and we had to weather the storm for periods of time, but we found a way.”
The win is important for the Trojans as they look to secure their place in the Sun Belt conference post season tournament late in the season. Troy currently qualifies for a spot in the tournament but has little room for error as they currently hold the final seed.
This season would be Troy's third consecutive season to qualify for the tournament.
“We have to enjoy this tonight and refocus tomorrow for Sunday,” said Bentley.
Troy will look to continue their conference success on Sunday when they take on Middle Tennessee at home. Kickoff is set for 1 pm in the Troy Soccer Complex.
