Troy soccer will travel to Western Kentucky to battle the Hilltoppers on Thursday.
TROY, Ala. – With only three matches left in the regular season the Troy soccer team is preparing to finish out strong in order to reach the conference tournament. Their attentions now turn towards Western Kentucky in the team's last road match which is set for Thursday.
Troy (8-8-1. 3-5) currently holds a tie breaking tournament vote over UALR (7-10, 3-5), who the Trojans beat on Friday. However, there is little room for error as Troy is currently the last team in the standings that is eligible to proceed onto the tournament.
The Trojans first have to overcome their first home loss of the season to Arkansas State and will need to snap a four game losing streak on the road when they face the Hilltoppers later this week.
"Sunday was a tough loss, there is no question about that; however it is one that we are learning from and that is evident in training,” said head coach Chris Bentley.
“There is still fight in us, which is great to see. We are still in the hunt to make the tournament, and we are going to take things one game at a time."
Western Kentucky (10-5-1, 5-2-1) will prove to be a true test for the Trojans as they end the near of the season. The Hilltoppers enter Thursday's match on a six game unbeaten streak, including a four game unbeaten streak at home. WKU currently sits in the fifth spot in the conference standings.
"WKU is talented, well-coached, and very tough at home,” Bentley said. “It will be a great challenge for our team. We are looking forward to it."
The Trojans kick off against the Hilltoppers on Thursday at 6 pm in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
