Trojans Take Four Titles At Samford Fall Classic

The Troy University men's tennis team captured four titles at the Samford Fall Classic, played over the weekend in Birmingham.

A pair of Trojans took individual titles and two others lost in the final match of their flights. The Trojans also took a pair of doubles titles and fell in the finals of the other two flights.

Sophomore Mansingh Athare was the biggest winner for Troy, capturing both a singles and doubles title. Athare defeated Samford's Scott Foster 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to win the Flight 7 Singles title and teamed with fellow sophomore Jamie Eccleton to defeat the team of Lucas Dirube and James Gardner of UAB 8-5 to win the Flight 3 doubles title.

Junior Anas Rouchdi took the Flight 2 singles title with a straight sets 6-4, 7-6 victory over Zac Dunkle of Samford.

In other singles play, Troy sophomore Patrick Eichler fell to Fernando Costa of Samford 6-4, 6-2 in the Flight 4 final and sophomore Tommy Cundy lost to Samford's Mark Lange 6-1, 6-2 in the Flight 8 final.

The Troy duo of Andre Stabile and Eichler took the Flight 1 doubles title with an 8-1 victory over Danny Manlow and Chris Helliar of UAB.

The members of the Troy men's tennis team will return to action on Thursday at Auburn in the Wilson/USTA/ITA Southern Regional Tournament. The event will run October 20-24.
