Troy will face off against UALR and Arkansas State this weekend in Sun Belt action.
TROY, Ala. – With only five games remaining in the season, the Troy University soccer team is preparing to bounce back from a four game road losing streak when they host Arkansas Little Rock and Arkansas State at home this weekend.
"We realize that 3 of the 4 teams we have played in this stretch are conference contenders,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “We have reassessed our goals, and focus has been good in training."
Troy (7-7-1; 2-4) had a promising 2-0 start this season in conference play but have quickly fallen victim to the top ranked opponents in the Sun Belt. The Trojans will look to this weekend's matchups against the Arkansas Little Rock Trojans and the Red Wolves as the turning point before the post season arrives.
The Trojans will have an advantage as they will host this weekend's matchups on their home pitch where they remain 5-0 on the season.
"Any conference game is a must-win for us, so these are no different,” Bentley said. “It is nice to finally play both of these teams at home. We have had great support this year and we hope that it continues Friday."
Arkansas Little Rock (7-8; 3-3) and Arkansas State (5-7-2; 3-3) lay right above the Trojans in the current Sun Belt rankings. A victory over both of them could start the Trojans on their way back up to a top seed in the post season tournament.
"UALR has some tremendous athleticism in the attack and we need to be ready for that,” said Bentley. “They have the ability to keep the ball or to play direct and be effective. Arkansas State is a hard-working blue-collar team. They will compete for everything, so nothing can be taken for granted against them as well."
