Trojan soccer defeated UALR on Friday 2-0.
Troy, Ala. – The Troy university soccer team snapped a four game losing streak at home on Friday against Arkansas-Little Rock. The 2-0 victory maintains the Trojans 6-0 undefeated home record this season.
“It was great to be back at home,” said head coach Chris Bentley.
Troy (8-7-1; 3-4) jumped ahead in the 9' as Alissa Jones headed a pass from Sydney Eppler to record the game winning goal. The goal is Jones' seventh goal of the season.
The Troy Trojans would go into the second half up 1-0 on the UALR Trojans, however Troy would not stop there.
Chelsey Williams scored in the 68' in almost identical fashion of Jones' first goal as she netted a pass from Sydney Eppler on another free kick. The goal gave Williams her eighth goal of the season and makes her the current leading scorer for the Trojan squad.
Troy recorded their third straight shut-out at home with the efforts of senior goalkeeper Ashley Branham who recorded seven saves in the match.
“We were happy with our effort today and we saw some things being applied on the field we have been working on,” Bentley said. “Our focus still needs to improve; however getting the result was huge for us. We now have to focus on Sunday.”
Troy is now tied with UALR in the conference standings as both teams are 3-4 in the conference; however they are now on the right path to improving in the standings before post season action. The Trojans now turn their attention to Arkansas State who they will host on Sunday.
Kickoff between the Trojans and the Red Wolves is set for 1 pm at the Troy Soccer Complex.
