Trojans Fall to 45th-ranked Indiana on Opening Day of UGA Invitational

Troy will face 15th-ranked Georgia and Kansas State to conclude the tournament over the weekend

ATHENS, Ga. - The Troy University women took on the 45th-ranked Indiana University Hoosiers on the opening day of the Georgia Invitational Friday afternoon, forcing three of the matches to three sets in a losing effort.
The tournament does not include team score, as it is based on singles and doubles play as individuals.
A trio of Trojans took their matches to three sets against the nationally-ranked Hoosiers, led by Rosaura Ramirez-Vega who lost to Indiana's Kayla Fujimoto 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. Gabriella Veiga fell to Sophie Garre after winning the first set 2-6, 6-1, 6-1; while freshman Olfa Dhaoui fell to Indiana's Charlotte Martin 4-6, 6-0, 6-0.
Number one singles player Karoline Grymel had the toughest task of the day as she faced the only nationally-ranked player on the Indiana squad, 91st-ranked Leslie Hureau. The sophomore fell in her singles match to the nationally-ranked player 6-3, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Leonie Guijt fell to Indiana's Evgeniya Vertesheva 6-0, 6-0; while Lubov Dorafeeva fell to Indiana's Katya Zapadalova 6-2, 6-0 in her first collegiate match. Also playing her first collegiate match, Olivia Battye fell to Indiana's Diana Kyllmann 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles action, the number one team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt fell to Indiana's Leslie Hureau and Katya Zapadalova 8-3; while the team of Olfa Dhaoui and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega fell to Indiana's team of Kayla Fukimotot and Evgeniya Vertesheva 8-1. In the final doubles match of the day, the Trojan team of Olivia Battye and Lubov Dorafeeva 8-1.
The Trojans return to action Saturday morning against the University of Georgia, and will play a full match beginning at 4 pm against Kansas State University. They will conclude the tournament with singles play against the University of Georgia on Sunday afternoon.
