Troy Soccer Prepares for Tough Home Conference Match-ups

The Trojans are set to face Sun Belt foes FIU and FAU this weekend at home.

TROY, Ala. – The Troy soccer team will take on Florida International and Florida Atlantic this weekend at home as the Trojans look to build on an already impressive start to the Sun Belt Conference schedule.
The Trojans are on a seven-game unbeaten streak, a four-game winning streak but will be challenged in tough conference matchups this weekend. Troy (7-2-1) enters the weekend a perfect 2-0 in conference play after defeating ULM and UL-Lafayette last weekend on the road.
"We have been training well this week, keeping things in perspective,” head coach Chris Bentley said. “We had a good weekend last week, but that was last weekend, and this week we have two strong teams coming to town."
Troy earned both wins last weekend off the feet of a duo of newcomers. Ruth Sutcliffe and Rochelle Bohuslavicky both scored in the final 10 minutes of the matches.The Trojan defense also stood strong, holding both opponents scoreless. Goalkeeper Ashley Branham and the Troy defense has not allowed an opponent to score in the last four matches.
"We need to do a better job of recognizing when to counter vs. build the attack,” Bentley said. “There were times last week that we gave the ball away carelessly. Hopefully we will do a little better with that this week."
Troy's upcoming conference foes have seen their share of success in the Sun Belt as well. Both FIU and FAU come to Troy with 2-0 conference records.
"FIU is the defending champion and the class of the conference until someone knocks them off, and FAU has historically been the better side when we play, so this weekend will certainly be a huge challenge for us,” Bentley said.
Troy will take on FIU on Friday at 3 p.m. and FAU on Sunday at noon. Both matches will take place at the Trojan Soccer Complex. Admission is free to all home soccer matches, and the matches will be available on All-Access via TroyTrojans.com.
