Both Cross Country Teams Run Well In Tuscaloosa

Teams finish eighth and 11th in Saturday races

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Troy University cross country teams had another great day on the course as they ran in the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, both recording top 11 finishes on the day.
The men's team had a very good eighth place finish in the 18-team field, with the race including many top teams such as fifth-ranked Alabama and Auburn, which is ranked seventh in the South region.
Enock Kirui recorded another impressive performance on Saturday. Although he did not win his third consecutive race, he finished with a personal best 25:12.70 and crossing the line 13th overall.
“In a race of this caliber, a 13th place finish is excellent,” coach Stephane Hetherington said. “Enock is quickly becoming one of the more feared runners in our conference.”
Freshman, Cory Jones, also had a good day with a time of 27:10.9 in his second 8K race.
“Cory was the most impressive part of this morning's race,” Hetherington said. “He took it upon himself to go above and beyond expectations, as a freshman running his second 8k ever that is very impressive especially on such a challenging course.”
Other runners for the Trojans in Tuscaloosa Saturday morning included David Hudman with a time of 28:27.40, Kemper Morton with a time of 28:38.90, Alec Hamm with a time of 28:47.20 and Adam Vise with a time of 29:48.1.
The women also had a strong finishing 11th in the field of 19. The competition on the women's side consisted of top ranked Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, as well as other top teams from the South region.
The women were lead by senior, Agnes Kapsoiyo, with a time of 19:21.20 and a 52nd place. The next Trojans across the finish line were Morgan Paulson and Allison Paulson with times of 19:49.70 and 19:49.80.
“Agnes led the charge for us today followed 20 seconds later by Morgan and Allison Paulson," Hetherington said. "Both of them ran personal records of about one minute for that particular course."
The other runners on the course for the Trojans Saturday were, Sylvia Chirchir with a time of 20:38.80, Haley Davies with a time of 21:06.90 and Catelyn Dake with a time of 21:19.00.
