Troy Heads to Tallahassee for the very competitive FSU Invitational
TROY, Ala. - After having the last three weeks off to recuperate from the early-season races, the Troy University cross country teams will be back in action this Friday at the FSU Invitational. In a break from the norm, the races will not be run Friday night with the women running at 6:20 pm and the men running at 6:45 pm.
“The team has successfully come off a string of races into three weeks of tough training,” said coach Stephane Hetherington. “We have pushed our limits in recent practices and I expect to see a benefit come this weekend and in future competitions.”
The Trojans will be facing another tough field of teams on both the women's and men's sides.
The men will be running against the Seminoles that are ranked first in the South region and 15th nationally. The field also includes third-ranked Florida in the South region who also has a national ranking of 30, as well as Stephen F. Austin which is ranked eighth in the South Central region.
“Florida State always comes ready to race as do we,” Hetherington said. “From past results one can clearly see how strong the competition is at this meet. There is no reason why we can't be battling for top team positions among the fields that will be present on Friday for both the men and the women.”
The women will be facing an equally challenging field with the host team being ranked third nationally and first in the South region. The women also will run against Florida, which is ranked 27th nationally and second in the South region, North Florida which is ranked eighth in the South Region and Stephen F. Austin, which is ranked seventh in the South Central region.
"I am delighted to get on the road to a great meet for our athletes who have trained hard the past few weeks,” said Jill Lancaster, Director of Track and Field at Troy University. "This is a highly-competitive meet and will push our student-athletes, getting them ready for conference."
The FSU Invitational is the next to last race before the Trojans go into post-season competition, with the last race being at home next weekend in the Coach “O” Invitational.
“Their teamwork will be a strength of the competition we can build on going into our upcoming Coach O home meet and the Sun Belt championships,” said Lancaster. “They look ready for the challenge.”
Results will be made available once they become available from Florida State University.
