Troy looks for their second consecutive home victory to open the season

TROY, Ala. – The Troy University Trojans soccer team hits the pitch in just two days, as they take on Southeastern Louisiana on Friday at the Troy Soccer Complex. The Trojans will be playing just their second game in seven days, as they take on a team that qualified for the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
The Trojans opened their 2010 season last Friday against Wofford College, leaving with an inspiring victory over the Terriers, 6-1. The team has used that momentum from a week ago into their preparations for SE Louisiana.
"We have been pleased this week, especially with our Sunday training session,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “The girls trained at a very high standard, especially after coming off the win against Wofford, where they could have been complacent."
Southeastern Louisiana will provide a different challenge for the Trojans than did Wofford, as they return 15 letterwinners from a season ago. The Lions ended the 2009 season as the runner-up in the Southland conference, with an overall record of 13-5-2.
"Southeastern Louisiana has been a tough opponent for Troy for a few years,” said Bentley. "They had an outstanding year last year winning their conference tournament and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. We will need to play a complete game Friday if we expect to get a positive result."
Although Troy comes into this game a slightly younger team, the Trojans have proven that they are still capable of competing at a high level. The Trojan newcomers made their presence known in the home opener with freshman Cecilia Thorngren and Maddie Tieken both recording goals in their first collegiate soccer matches. Tieken ended the game with a total of three, which is the most scored by any freshman in their debut match.
Newcomer Ruth Sutcliffe also added three assists to her name in her first game as a Trojan, which is a school record.
“We expect them to bring a high intensity on Friday,” Bentley said. “It will be a great match to further prepare us for our conference opponents,"
