Freshman holds lead in calf roping
CASPER, Wyo. -- Troy University freshman Lane Taylor has the early lead in the team roping competition at the College National Finals Rodeo.
Taylor, a native of Kinston, Ala., is teamed with Brady Wilson of Missouri Valley College and, after the first two days of competition, which included three rounds of roping, holds a one second advantage over a tandem from Eastern New Mexico University.
Taylor and Wilson posted times of 12.4 seconds, 8.4 and 8.1 in their three runs. The will have to wait out three more days of competition to see if their time is good enough to put them into the finals.
Another team of Trojans, seniors Mark Gentry (Pelham, Ala.) and Clint Keller (Winston-Salem, NC), are tied for 24th after two rounds of competition, which included a no score in the second round after a first round time of 6.7 seconds.
Troy's Stetson Aldridge, a senior from Folkston, Ga., is also in the hunt in the tie-down roping competition, having posted times of 13.0 and 9.6 seconds in his first two runs. He still has one run left to complete over the next three days.
Overall, the Trojans stand 11th as a team after two days with 220 points. Southern Idaho leads the men's team competition with 420 points.
Competition at the CNFR will continue with performances Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights. The championship round is scheduled for Saturday night. All performances are set for 7 p.m. (MT).
