A win against South Alabama, and a loss by WKU, would improve the Trojans seeding to fifth
TROY, Ala. – Despite being plagued by injury, the Troy University soccer team will be looking to wrap up their regular season on a positive note against South Alabama this Friday, looking to improve their seeding in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
“South Alabama is a good team,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “We expect them to be very competitive.”
The Trojans (10-7-1, 5-5 Sun Belt) have already qualified for the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Tournament, as they currently sit sixth overall. A victory against the South Alabama Jaguars, and a loss by WKU, could improve Troy to the fifth seed entering the conference tournament. However, a loss by the Trojans, coupled by a win by Florida Atlantic and the Trojans could slip to seventh in the tournament.
“The match is good preparation for the conference tournament which we've already made,” said Bentley. “It is good for us to go through this week and prepare ourselves, and to learn from our experience Friday and then apply it again going into next week.”
The Jaguars (5-13-1, 3-6-0 Sun Belt) enter into their last regular season match against the Trojans having not qualified for the post season tournament. However, they enter the match off of a victory against WKU who also qualified for the tournament; therefore they will be looking to improve on what remains of their season.
The Trojans travel to Mobile to take on the Jaguars on Friday at 7 pm.
