Grymel and Guijt Claim UNF Fall Invitational Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Troy University women's tennis team wrapped up their first competition of the fall at the 2010 UNF Hampton Inn 9A & Baymeadows Fall Invitational with a doubles championship and a pair of third place finishes.
In doubles action, sophomore Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt returned to the form that made the number one doubles team at Troy, winning a pair of matches on Saturday morning to claim the championship in the 'A' Flight.
The pair needed to win a pair of matches Saturday morning to be able to pull out the championship, and that is just what they did. The second-seeded duo defeated the third-seeded team of Andrie Meiring and Rebecca Kierven to open the day, 8-6; before turning their attention to the finals.
In the championship round, the Trojans faced a team from Florida Gulf Coast in Iris Rendon and Morgan Betchel that had all ready pulled off two upsets. However, the FGCU duo fell to the Trojans 8-5 in the finals, the first for the Trojans this fall.
Grymel and Guijt also competed in singles matches on the day, both competing for third place after succumbing to upsets on Friday.
Grymel won her match on Saturday afternoon, defeating second-seeded Taylor Morgan of Samford 6-2, 6-4 to claim the match in Singles 'A'. Her doubles partner, Guijt, also played in the third-place match and defeated Melissa Narzissenfeld 6-0, 7-5 to win the match in Singles 'B'.
The only other Trojan to compete in the tournament, Gabriella Veiga finished sixth in Singles Flight 'C', falling to Morgan Betchel of Florida Gulf Coast 6-1, 6-3 Saturday afternoon. She also finished sixth in doubles play in Flight 'B' falling in her final match 8-6.
The women return to action at Samford University next weekend.
