NWMCC Rodeo Begins Thursday

Senatobia, Miss.- Troy rodeo is gearing up for the final push in the 2008-2009 season at the Northwest Mississippi Community College rodeo in Senatobia, Mississippi this weekend.
“We have worked really hard this week,” coach Josh Simmons said. “The team is in good spirits and we were able to work around the weather this week and get in some sold practice.”
The women's team currently looking to catch the Missouri Valley College Vikings who currently inhabit second place in the women's race. The Trojan women are just under 400 points behind MVC for the Ozark Region with the two last rodeos of the season to try and close the gap.
The men of Troy are sitting tight in third for the region with a larger hill to climb in overtaking the University of Tennesse-Martin. The men are currently 680 points behind the UTM Skyhawks and must do extremely well this weekend and at the UTM home rodeo later this month to overtake second.
Senior Ben Mayworth and Junior team ropers Mark Gentry and Clint Keller are looking to write their names on the contestants list for the College National Finals Rodeo with solid performanes this weekend.
“We have a few people that could solidify a spot at the CNFR with a decent performance this weekend,” Simmons said. “As a whole we just need to execute and and maintain a level of consistency.”
Freshman Whitney Hazouri and sophomore Tabitha Kiker are looking to qualify in the breakaway roping. Sophomore Callie Wiginton is also looking to manufacture points in the goat tying and make her first trip to the CNFR.
The rodeo begins Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the NWMCC Livestock Arena in Senatobia, Mississippi. Performances will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, with the Saturday night performance hosting the top ten cowboys and cowgirls from each event.
