LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The Troy University Rodeo team was back in action this past weekend at the University of West Alabama. This was the Trojans fourth of their five events for the Ozark Region in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA).
The Trojan women's team finished third for the weekend with a total of 160 points. Allyson Hayes finished first in Barrel Racing with a time of 33.82, while teammate Heather Moore finished not too far behind in third with a time of 34.06.
The Troy women's team swept the top three positions in Breakaway Roping. Shelby Osceola finished first with Whitney Hazouri and Shelby Sipe coming in second and third, respectively.
"The girls had a good showing this weekend," said head coach Josh Simmons. "Sophomore Shelby Sipe had her most solid performance of the year."
Mike Johnson a National Finals Rodeo qualifier and his wife Sherrilynn Johnson will be in town this week helping with both teams.
"Mike and his wife are legends in this industry," said Simmons. "They will be helping me out with preparing for Murray State. This will give us lots of outside help and it has motivated the team to want to win as well as sharpened us up. We are ready for Murray State and are looking forward to bringing back a victory."
The men completed the event in fifth place with a total of 250 points. Stetson Aldridge finished third in Tie Down Roping with a score of 23.1, while teammate Maverick Becht finished in fourth with a score of 23.9.
