Scouts Converge on Troy Camp

Maybe it's the success of Demarcus Ware and Osi Umenyiora, or perhaps it's the selection of Leodis McKelvin at number 11 overall by the Buffalo Bills, but NFL scouts were all over Troy on Tuesday.
Two scouts from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers attended Tuesday night's practice, while two from the Detroit Lions visited with coaches Tuesday morning. In addition, another scout from the Bills was on campus all day.
“Once again the scouts are at practice, even coming in earlier than before,” Troy strength and conditioning coach Richard Shaughnessy said. “We've got five to six players at this point they are looking at, with a few having a draft potential.”
The biggest names of interest with the scouts were senior DBs Terence Moore and Sherrod Martin and DT Steve McLendon.
Shaughnessy serves as the Trojans' NFL liaison and has a lot to do with the success former Troy players enjoy once they hit the NFL.
Several players sat out Tuesday night's full pads practice including senior DB Terrence Moore, junior WR Andrew Davis and TE Travis Boyd and sophomore OL Tyler Clark. None have serious injuries, but all are having to take some time off the field.
Junior place kicker Sam Glusman took reps with the first-string unit. He converted on eight of his 10 attempts, including a 42-yard attempt he nailed on his last kick of the day. Michael Taylor connected on a 41-yard attempt during the 11-on-11 scrimmage period.
Freshman running back Chris Anderson had a nice run during the full team period, breaking through the defensive line for 30-yard run to the end zone.
Sophomore RB Josh Brownell, a local product from Geneva, decided to hang up his cleats. Brownell saw action on special teams as a freshman walk-on, and redshirted last year. He decided to give up playing when it became obvious that he was destined for another season on the scout team.
