Trojans Complete First Round at CNFR

Sophomore Mark Gentry and team roping partner Bart Brunson of the University of Arkansas-Monticello led the Trojans after posting a first round time of 11.4 seconds. The team of Gentry and Brunson finished 17th in the first round of competition.
“It wasn't really the start we wanted,” Gentry said. “I roped one hind leg giving us a five-second penalty, but we still have two rounds to try and get better, so that is what we are going to do.”
Junior Andy Seiler and his partner Wes Brunson, also of UAM and brother to Bart, turned in a time of 12.1 seconds, giving them a finish of 19th for the first round.
“The first one is usually the hardest,” Seiler said. “We have that one notched on our belt so now we can move forward and look to make a run at being smooth in later rounds.”
Sophomores Clint Keller and Ty Ethridge stopped the clock in the team roping with a time of 21.7 seconds, putting them in the top 35 teams. Keller also posted a time of 14.1 seconds in the tie-down roping, putting him 22nd in the event after one run.
Trojan barrel racers are also looking to improve after gaining penalties for hitting barrels in the first round. Freshman Nisha Middleton and sophomore Mary Owens are 42nd and 43rd respectively after gaining the penalties. Both Middleton and Owens will compete again to try and better their average for a hope at qualifying for the championship round June 21.
