Trojans Lose Big to UAB, 13-2

“This was UAB's night from the beginning,” coach Bobby Pierce said. “We got behind early and couldn't catch up. They hit the ball well and you just have to tip your cap.”
UAB struck early with four runs in the top first inning. Jonathan Merritt belted a lead-off home run off of
UAB added three more in the top half of the second inning on a Cody McMurray three-run blast to give UAB the 7-0 lead.
The Trojans were able to crack the goose egg in the bottom of the second when Beau Brooks walked and advance on a single form Trevor Tyre and Brett Henry. He scored on a RBI single off the bat of Daryl Otwell.
The Blazers added a run in the sixth on a RBI double from Hardy. They added three more in the seventh on a two-run homer by Merritt, his second of the game, and a solo shot from Ryan Keedy for the 11-1 lead.
UAB added two runs in the top of the ninth for the 13-2 final.
The Blazers out hit the Trojans 23-8 in the contest.
Brown (2-3) lasted only two thirds of an inning as he allowed four runs on three Blazer hits while walking two and striking out one.
Travis Burge followed Brown and gave up three runs on five hits and one walk.
Freshman Drew Hull tossed the next three innings and gave up four hits and struck out a batter. A.J. Howard came in to hurl the next inning and two thirds. He gave up four runs on five hits.
Mike Powers tossed an inning and a third and gave up two hits while striking out two. Jordan Mathers tossed the ninth inning and gave up one hit.
