TROY, Ala.
? The Troy Trojan rodeo team is getting prepared for the first of three weekends
on the road in the Ozark region, starting with a road trip this weekend to Martin, Tenn.
Junior Andy Seiler and sophomore Mark Gentry are looking to
keep the momentum swinging in their favor at the 40th Annual UT-Martin
rodeo after their first win as a team two weeks ago at the University of
Arkansas-Monticello rodeo.
“We are excited about the way things have been going here
lately,” Seiler said. “Our practices have been going very well and we look
forward to getting some more points and bringing some more regional
championships back to Troy.”
Gentry leads all team roping heelers in the Ozark region
with 605 points, trailed closely by his teammate and fellow sophomore Ty Ethridge.
Leading the team roping header standings in the region is Trojan
sophomore Clint Keller with 565 points. Keller is also fifth in the tie-down
roping standings with 325 points, only 100 points behind the leader Cody Prescott
of Southern Arkansas University.
Junior Ben Mayworth
is currently second in the calf roping standings with 410 points, 15 points
behind the leader with over 500 points still up for the taking in the last
three rodeos.
“It is anyone's game for now,” Mayworth said. “We have to
keep placing and let everything else just work itself out and hope to be there
when the smoke clears.
The Trojan women's team is also second in the overall
standings, trailing only the women of the University of Arkansas-Monticello.
Freshman Nisha Middleton and sophomore Mary Owens lead the
women's team sitting second and third respectively in the barrel racing
standings.
The rodeo will begin on Thursday April 10 at 7 p.m., with
the remaining rounds of competition beginning Friday and Saturday nights at
