Gentry Grabs Gold for Troy

SENATOBIA, Miss.- The Troy team ropers keep bringing the heat, and the efforts have paid off in the way of a regional championship earned at the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rodeo.
Sophomore Mark Gentry clinched his first regional championship on the heeling side of the team roping after winning the event this weekend with his partner and teammate junior Andy Seiler. It is the fifth consecutive Ozark Region team roping title for the Trojans in the past four years.
“I was really excited to go ahead and finish the job,” Gentry said. “It puts my mind at ease to know that I can compete at our last rodeo and know that no matter what I will still go to the College National Finals Rodeo and be in first place for our region.”
The team of Gentry and Seiler bested the field with a total time of 14.8 seconds in two rounds of competition. Trojan sophomore Jake Thomas and freshman Daniel Clemmons finished second with a total time of 15.2 seconds after two.
Freshman Tabitha Kiker led the women's team after winning both rounds of the breakaway competition and the overall average for the weekend, giving her 180 points towards the Ozark Region standings.

Others also gaining points for the Trojans included junior Ben Mayworth in the calf roping and team roping, Stetson Aldridge in the calf roping and team roping, freshman Will Bradley in the team roping and steer wrestling, freshman Aaron Lowe in the team roping and steer wrestling, sophomore Mary Owens in the barrel racing, junior Dakota Missildine in the breakaway roping, and freshman Nisha Middleton in the in the barrel racing.
