Precise Leads Trojans in 9-1 Win

“This was a big win for this team,” coach Bobby Pierce said. “We needed this win to help us get back on track and this was a very special night for this team, this program and this school with the dedication of the baseball building.”
In the fifth inning Charley Williams, Lance Miller, and Steven Felix all reached base on walks. Each runner touched the plate on a grand slam deep to left field off the bat of Michael Precise for his seventh home run of the season to give the Trojans the 9-0 lead.

In the third inning Felix led off with a double off the wall in right field. He scored on a groundout from Brooks. Bryan Miller followed that with a double and consecutive walks to Brock Kelley and Williams set the table for Trevor Tyre, who singled to center field scoring both runners and giving the Trojans the 4-0 advantage.
Michael Marseco led off the sixth inning with a double off of the wall in right field and scored on a double down the line in left cracking the goose egg for Samford, 9-1.
Senior Rob Brown (1-2) got his first win of the season in the game as he went five full innings and did not allow a run on two hits. He walked two batters and struck out five Bulldog batters.
“Rob did exactly what we needed him to do tonight,” Pierce said. “He had command of his pitches and he controlled the game on the mound.”
Jeff Green gave up the only run of the game on two hits in the sixth inning. He also struck out one batter.
Eric Hanssen tossed two scoreless innings and struck out one batter. Drew Stanford made his first collegiate appearance in the game as he threw the final inning. He also struck out a batter.
Precise led the Trojans with three hits and six RBI. Felix had two hits and scored three run with Bryan Mille chipping in two RBI.
The Trojans will return to the diamond Friday night when they play host to Arkansas-Little Rock in a three game Sun Belt Conference series.
