Simmons Returns Home as New Rodeo Coach

Troy University Director of Athletics Steve Dennis announced today the hiring of former Trojan Josh Simmons as the programs' new rodeo coach.
Simmons replaces Paul Cave, who was forced to leave the program after only a few months due to a serious family illness.
“I had a great experience here at Troy competing as a member of the rodeo team and I am excited about the opportunity to return and lead the program into the future,” Simmons said. “I enjoy working with young people and I am passionate about rodeo, so this is a perfect situation for me.”
Simmons, a native of Paxton, Fla., competed in rodeo through high school and at Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton, Ga., before arriving at Troy in 2002. He competed as a member of the Troy team in both calf roping and team roping events and is still active as a competitor. In 2004 he placed third in team roping at the National College Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.
“We are excited about Josh returning to our rodeo program and the opportunity to lead us in the years to follow,” Associate Director of Athletics Sandy Atkins said. “Josh is a Troy graduate and we welcome him back to the Troy family.”
He received his degree in business administration management from Troy in the spring of 2005.
The Trojans have four events remaining in the spring rodeo season and are near the top of the Ozark Region standings in both the men's and women's competition.
“Our goal is to qualify both teams for the National College Finals Rodeo and we are on the verge of doing that right now,” Simmons said. “We are also close to having several of our cowboys and cowgirls qualify in individual events.”
