Meridian, Miss.--
The Troy University rodeo teams' practice paid
off at the Mississippi State Bulldog Stampede over the weekend.
Troy sophomores Clint Keller (Winston-Salem, NC) and Ty Ethridge (Franklin, Ga.) paired up to win both rounds of the team roping competition,
as well as the overall average, with a total time of 15.9 seconds on two
steers.
Keller was glad to get the points that will bring him closer
to making the College National Finals Rodeo in June.
“We really needed this one,” Keller said. “We were behind in
the regional standings and we needed to make some moves in order to try and
make the CNFR.”
Keller also picked up 35 points for Troy in the calf roping after winning third
in the first round of competition with a time of 11.9 seconds.
Junior Ben Mayworth (Sebring,
Fla.) also gained points for Troy in the calf roping competition after
finishing second in the average with an overall time of 24.2 seconds on two
calves. Mayworth is currently first in the Ozark region calf roping standings with
410 points.
Sophomore Mary Owens (Rome,
Ga.) made sure no one forgot
about her in the barrel racing after winning the championship round and the
overall average with a total time of 32.66 second in two rounds of competition.
With the win, Owens is now third overall in the regional standings with 325
points.
Others earning points for Troy
were senior Chris Graham (Carthage, Texas) in the calf roping, senior Jackie Jacobs (Ashton, Ill.) in the goat
tying, sophomore Jake Thomas (Ranger, Ga.) in
the steer wrestling, junior Randie Jo Williams (Sebring,
Fla.) in the barrel racing and sophomore Cooper Johnson (Harpersville, Ala.) in the bull riding.
The Trojans will be back in action March 28-29 at the
